14.01.10 - Relief effort is under way in Haiti, our crews ready to act as soon as the tasks emerge

As our crew members in Haiti informed us today via Skype large scale rescue operations are well under way to recover the injured and dead from under the rubbles. The number of victims according to the latest data amounts to tens and even hundreds of thousands. All shops in Port-au-Prince are shut down. Fresh water supply centres are not operating. There?s a serious shortage of petrol in the city.

Field hospitals have been organized throughout the area. Local small military helicopters and vehicles deliver injured people there. Rescue groups are continuously arriving from different countries. The first were 60 rescuers from China, followed by a group of rescuers from Great Britain. The United States are also going to send a group of 2000 marines.

As our manager in Haiti informed the first pushes of the earthquake were felt yesterday around 16.30 local time bringing vast devastations of the buildings. As a result the streets of the city were jammed with traffic with occasional fires emerging in different parts of the city.

On the villa where the employees of our company are accommodated, earthquake pushes cracked the walls and broke the utensils.

At present all the company employees are based in Port-au-Prince aerodrome and accommodated in Technical house. The company helicopters are also there in a duty mode and ready for relief operations as tasked by the UN mission in Haiti. ?All members of the crew are in good health, nothing endangers their well-being and they are ready to for operations.? The equipment is fully operational and is ready for performing tasks. We keep a continuous contact with the UN office as to defining the tasks and actions of the crews?, reports Sergey Hontaruk.
