In the beginning of the 2008 all international media were focused on the damages caused by a savior and distractive hurricane in Haiti. The Gonnaive town was devastated and flooded. The inhabitants were forced to look for a shelter on the roofs and among the branches of trees. Lack of drinking water, food; roads completely destroyed, no links with outside world… The Haitians were facing a real threat of humanitarian disaster. The only vehicle to reach Gonnaive at that moment was a helicopter. Coherent team work of Ukrainian Helicopters and the UN peace keeping staff resulted in saving of numbers of human lives. The Ukrainian Helicopters rescued people from flooded areas, transported humanitarian goods, food, water and medicines. Professionalism and emergency experience of our pilots justified the confidence of Haiti UN mission officers again.
