Beginning from 1 February 2010, 2 helicopters of the aviation company started to operate under the UN tasks in DR Congo. This is the third African country where the company’s aircraft are currently performing flight tasks of the UN mission in Congo (MONUC). The other two countries are: the Republic of Sudan and The Ivory Coast where our helicopters have been working since 2008.

A former Republic of Zaire and ex-Belgian colony currently the Democratic Republic of Congo is the largest country in Central Africa and the third largest country of the continent. Serious problems in Congo emerged in 1960 when the country was proclaimed independent of Belgium. At that time the UN peacekeeping forces were brought into the country to secure the withdrawal of Belgian troops. Officially the United Nations Organization Mission in DR Congo (MONUC) was set up by the UN Security Council on 30 November 1999 to restore and support peace in the country torn apart by the opposing DRC government and separatists from the eastern provinces of Kasai and Catanga. The struggle for independence took the form of the war known as the Second Congo War (1998-2002). 

Flight tasks of the aircraft in DR Congo include passengers’ transportation, casevac and medevac operations, and delivery of humanitarian goods to the country’s population. The aircraft operational bases are in Goma and Bukavu. 

Among other areas of operations in Africa within the scope of UN tasks are such countries as Ethiopia (2006-2007), Somali (2007), Uganda (2007), Kenia (2006-2007), Mozambique (2007-2008), Madagascar (2007-2008).

30.01.10 - Operational results 2009

According to the analysis of work performed in 2009 all the operational parameters preserve the growth tendency. The number of passengers, total flight time, and the number of goods transported have increased by  76%, 74%, 37% respectively. In addition the number of flight personnel has also expanded and by the end of 2009 equals to 174. The technical department is represented by more than 90 highly skilled engineers and technicians.

Office staff of the company is also becoming larger. As of 01 January 2010 it constituted 318 employees. (Just to compare: in 2006 there were 139 office employees, in 2007 – 142 employees, and in 2008 – 233 employees).

Как сообщили сегодня вечером в главный офис авиакомпании в Киеве наши сотрудники, связавшись через Skype, на Гаити продолжают вестись масштабные спасательные операции по извлечению пострадавших и погибших из-под развалин.  Число жертв исчисляется десятками, а по недавним данным и сотнями тысяч. Все магазины Порт-о-Пренса закрыты, не работают пункты снабжения питьевой водой, в городе ощущается серьезная недостача бензина.

Повсеместно разбиты полевые госпитали, в которые местными маленькими военными вертолетами и машинами доставляются раненые. Непрерывно прибывают группы спасателей из разных стран. Первыми прибыли 60 специалистов из Китая, за ними –группа спасателей из Великобритании, США также направляет подразделение морских пехотинцев в составе 2000 человек.  

Первые толчки землетрясения, по словам наших сотрудников, начались вчера в районе 16.30 по местному времени, нанеся значительные разрушения зданиям Порт-о-Пренса. В результате на улицах города образовались серьезные транспортные заторы, в разных частях города стали вспыхивать пожары. 

На вилле, где проживают сотрудники авиакомпании, были ощутимы толчки, в результате которых в стенах образовались трещины, разбилась посуда. 

 В настоящее время все сотрудники авиакомпании находятся на аэродроме Порт-о-Пренса и размещаются в техническом домике. Вертолеты компании находятся там же в дежурном режиме и готовы по команде миссии ООН в стране приступить к выполнению задач по эвакуации пострадавших и доставке гуманитарной помощи. "Все члены экипажа здоровы, опасностей для здоровья нет, настроение удовлетворительное, готовы к выполнению заданий. Техника находится в рабочем состоянии и готова к работе. Постоянно находимся в контакте с ООН по определению заданий и действиям экипажей,"  - доложил Сергей Гонтарук.
